FROM THIS SHOW:

Do you ever scratch your head when you hear various “buzzwords” in the culture these days?

On today’s show, Mike and Matthew take a crack at the ever-trendy Wellness space to help navigate a word that seems easy to put your finger on when you have it going on—but downright difficult to pin what actually needs to get done when you’re not. This is so important!

If you think this is just another fad to make people money, you’d be right.

But there’s substance to it at the core that allows the bad actors to slip in and deceive. So that’s where wisdom and experience come in.

Don’t miss this episode if you’re unwilling to call it quits on being known for being WELL.

TAKEAWAYS

  • Wellness is what people think is their state of optimal being. But because this is largely subjective, we need to qualify what makes for true wellness and what’s just normal life making you uncomfortable.

  • To get at a better understanding of Wellness you must succeed in blending physical, relational, emotional, spiritual and even your vocational, financial and recreational life domains to give you what makes for a life where you feel more in control of your day-to-day.

  • A person who has developed into a true Wellness practice is able to feel in control of their attitude and adjust their expectations for good things no matter what life’s circumstances bring them—especially when times are hard and the outlook is bleak.

Lifer Discussion Guide

Use the questions in today’s Lifer Guide to assist you over any hurdles you may have to clear as you address your mental health. These are special conversations!

“Lifers” are people who have unwavering faithfulness. This assures you that they’ll stick by you through all the highs and lows that are normal for a life with mental health challenges. If you haven’t nominated a lifelong family member or friend as part of your non-medical support team, what are you waiting for? :-)

The Questions:

1) As you grew up, was there anyone in your family or in your school that you aspired to be like in terms of their strength of character? / What did they do that made you feel this way about them?

2) Did you lose touch with that person over time, or have you have been able to keep them or someone like them in your life to this day?

3) Of all the life domains mentioned by Mike and Matthew (think physical wellness, emotional wellness, spiritual solid grounding, etc.), which one do find the easiest to be great at? Tell me about that.

4) Is there a life domain you have consistently struggled with being well at? / What do you think makes it so hard to get dialed in as a life practice of wellness?

5) Is there anything you look up to me for in terms of wellness, or could we work together to grow in some way towards mutual wellness this year?
